In my opinion, there are three big
problems living in cities. The three big problems seem like ‘chain reaction’
from one to another. Let’s talk about the three big problems.
First, living in cities need high
cost. Mostly the prices in cities are more expensive than in towns. Reason why
this happened because the number of commodity demand and supply is not balanced.
When people move to cities and make the population density high, the amount of
demand automatically increased. Of course, firms make use of this condition to
increase the price of their product time by time. So that’s why the prices in
cities are expensive.
Second, traffic jam is also a big
problem of cities. Traffic jam can caused by high number of private vehicles
and few number of public transportations. In Indonesia, for example, the number
of motor cycles is very high, especially in big cities (Jakarta, Surabaya,
etc). If the the
governments do not put high attention at this problem, few
years later people might can not move to anywhere because the road is full of
motorcycles. People prefer to use their own vehicles than public
transportations because they are simplier and faster. Most of public transportations do not offer pleasures
for the passangers. Sometimes they are dirty and slow.
If I were a city mayor in my city, I
would make a policy for the students of elementary schools, junior high
schools, and senior high schools who live far from their school to ride in
school buses. In my senior high school, mostly, each student rides a motorcycle.
You can imagine, how many motorcycles crowd
the road everyday if each of senior high school students rides one motorcycles.
Why the students of elementary school also involved in this new policy? Because students of elementary school
and junior high school do not allowed to
a ride motorcycle. Their parent take them to school by motorcycle everyday.
Same problem, too many motorcycles on the road. Another possible policy is
limiting the number of new motorcycles
trade per year. If there are no limitation on motorcycle trade, the number of
motorcycle in city will increase.
The last problem is the rate of
crime. People who do not obey the law
will do anything to accomplish their need. They do not care another people
rights. Criminals in city usually steal wallets or cellphones, burgle a house,
rob vehicles, or rapping.
Those three problems of city make a
chain reaction. Do you know why? The high living cost make people to go to work
or school to get better payment or education. Most of them ride their own
vehicles and cause traffic jam. For people who want the simple way to accomplish
their need, they prefer to do crime than work. However, you have to believe every
problem is always have its solution. Brilliant ideas from all of citizens are
very needed.
