This is the story
3 months after the independence of Indonesia, on 10 November 1945 there was a big battle in Indonesia which took place at the bridge. A British Brigadier General, Mallaby was killed. After Japanese troops left Indonesia because Hiroshima and Nagasaki was bombed by U.S troops, they decided that they must go back to Japan. Next, British troops came to Indonesia and they didn't came alone. They came with NICA (Netherlands Indies Civil Administration). They landed in Surabaya to disarmed Japanese troops and collected the remaining guns that Surabaya people had.
And on 10 November 1945, British troops and NICA gave ultimatum to Surabaya people that they must hand over the guns to British troops and NICA, before 10.00 a.m. If they didn't hand over the guns, the troops would attack Surabaya by their army, navy, and air forces.
But Surabaya people didn’t give up. They didn't hand over the guns to troops.
The battle was inevitable. Many of Surabaya people were killed here and the ally throw the dead body into the river under the bridge. It made the river bloody red.
Because of that Surabaya people called the bridge “The Red Bridge”. In the past the bridge was made of wood. But then the government rebuilt it using hard steel and the bridge is an interesting place in Surabaya that we must visit....
I ever went here before and i saw it was very good and if we stood in the bridge it could help us to felt the fought before ....
